| Freakin'! I'm never telling my family jokes ever again.
So, I heard a pretty cute joke today: What did the 0 (zero) say to the 8?............................................................ "Hey! Nice belt!" :D
I texted the joke to some people during the middle of the day... including Sandy. One friend texts back "LOL. I like it." Another writes back "haha... very cute!" Then, there's Sandy, who texts me "Huh? Don't get it." ....... I didn't have time to text back an explanation, nor did I feel the need to. About 30 minutes later, she writes me back saying "I get it now." Later, she tells me that she only got it cuz her coworker explained it to her.
After work, I decide to tell my mom the cute joke. Granted, I had to translate it into Korean, but it was easy. It dealt with numbers... and there wasn't much involved. She lets out a giggle and says she doesn't get it either. I ended up drawing pictures... of a zero... and an eight... and the zero wearing a belt... so that it looks like an eight. It was just messy... and not funny anymore. I concluded that my mom and Sandy lack a humor bone.
I'm sure my dad will get it... so I tell it to him. "Ah-bba. I have a joke for you. What did the zero say to the eight?" He thinks for a second and says "What else would he say, but hyung-neem... (my elder/wiser one) "
HAHA... what the!? I couldn't help but laugh. When I told him the punchline, he was like "What would a belt have to do with anything?!" So, I actually resorted to drawing out the same pictures I drew out for my mom... and he said pretty much said the same thing: "That's not a joke. It's not even funny."
Seriously. Not telling my family jokes ever again.

| ** Warning: Lots of photos **
Has a whole month gone by already? Well, alot has happened since mid-January.... and since I took many many pictures to showcase it... I'll try to limit my writing :)
The first weekend of February, Ian and Andrea got engaged! :) Congratulations to the lovely couple! :) Many of us were quietly waiting on the rooftop ... 1) to see what Andrea said :) and... 2) to celebrate with them if Andrea did, indeeed, say "yes." :)

Some of the guys with Ian towards the very end of the night. "Cheers" to the lucky engaged man! :) (Ian, Dan, Dave, David)
(Jane, me, & Andrea. Jane is also newly engaged, who will wed this Fall. Can't wait for both weddings!! :) )

Valentine's weekend was just lovely! Had dinner with friends... and got to indulge in some delicious fondue. (Sandy, Grace, & me)

I loooooove fondue! The gram cracker covered marshmallows and oreo cookie covered marshmallows were so good!

At Vain - mingling, drinking, dancing, celebrating. (Happy birthday to Hara... who looks quite angry here. But I was told she had a good time :) Looks like Arnold was definitely having a good time of his own. Hehe :)

At Geja's restaurant for another fondue meal. I had a very romantic evening with these four!

First course - cheese fondue. Not really my favorite... but that's only cuz the taste of white wine is so strong. Still have to get it every time tho!

Main course - meat, chicken, and seafood... cooked in ... coq au vin??

Third course - chocolate fondue

Karen, me, Nalae, & Sandy.

Mid-February, had a mini-getaway in the city with Sandy, Grace, & Jenny. First night, 2/08, we had dinner at Le Colonial on Rush. The food was amazing... and the ambiance was just so quaint and pristine.

me and Sandy

Grace & Jenny

We stayed overnight at the W hotel on Lakeshore. I didn't know what to expect... but it was waaaay more impressive than any Holiday Inn I had stayed in! Haha ;)

Had some drinks in the lobby... and I discovered a very yummy drink - Mango Mojito.

Jenny, me, & Grace

After checking out the next morning, we headed over to the Tiffini Kim Institute for our few hours of heavy girly pampering.

I had never gotten a full facial and massage before. It was beyond relaxing! I wanna go back! :)

On our way to the Peninsula for High Tea.

All the food and desserts were very tasty... and filling!!

Here we are with our teapots and finger sandwiches... looking all well-mannered and lady-like. Haha... just a facade.

2/21... went to the One Republic/Josh Kelley concert. I loved it!!

We all rushed home from work to make it to the concert on time.... but since we were all a little hungry, we stopped off at Starbucks for some goodies. (Jae & Sandy)

We watched the show from the balcony... which was still just as crowded as the first floor, but at least we didn't get any neck cramps from looking up to the stage

Josh Kelley was the 2nd act... and I think I enjoyed it the most. I absolutely LOVE his voice... and I love allll his songs!! The Daylights were the opening act... and while they were good, I was just anxious to see Mr. Kelley and One Republic perform :)

tried to get a close-up, but it turned out a bit blurry. Oh... and I scanned the whole theatre to see if maybe Katherine Heigl was there. But nope!!... she was nowhere in sight!

Today, 2/24... was our Hustle up the Hancock event. Sandy and I had to get to the building by 7:30. Our actual start time was 8:30, but I guess they needed us to be there early to sign in, check in our gear, and just prepare. (it was a gorgeous day today!)

We were in the 7th "wave" of groups. We pretty much waited an hour to an hour and half... to climb up 55 stories up the Hancock building. We finished in about 9 minutes. !!! Alllll that waiting to participate in a 9 minute climb!! Haha... actually... the whole event was an experience to remember. We saw and met very nice/interesting people throughout our wait... and indulged in all the "rewards" after our climb.

I feared a total collapse during the middle of my climb..... only cuz I didn't know what to expect. I knew it was going to be different from any 5k or 8k run I had done. But yay!... I made it out alive! :)

So funny... cuz sandy and i started pretty fast in the beginning... kinda running up the stairs. Well, by the 7th or 8th flight, we were dying!!! What were we thinking?!? We can't run up the entire 55 stories!! We slowed down and paced ourselves for the rest of the climb... and we finished it, not crawling up... but on our feet! :)

We got a goodie bag... as we do with most events. But this one was filled with alot more food! :) awesome. We even got Hummus! haha... HUMMUS!!

Sandy and I are definitely doing the climb again next year... but we want to form a team for 2009. It's just way more fun doing this stuff in a large group... with friends... :) So, anyone who's interested, let us know!!
Ramdomness:
--I'm sneezing up a storm right now. --I need to catch up on my movies. I'm participating in an office pool for the Oscars, and I just know I got every category wrong! --I'm going back to Orbit gum. Trident gets too hard --I LOVED "Step Up 2" hehe... :) Kinda wish I could dance half as good as those actors... but that'll never ever happen. I know that... and I accept that :) --I'm addicted to energy drinks right now, particularly Blue Sky and Steaz(orange) drinks. --I need to control my shopping!! I love jeans tho... can't help it. --super excited for Miami at the end of March! --I'm predicting that a guy will win American Idol this year. Right now, I got my eye on David Archuleta and Michael, the australian guy. --gonna try to sign up for a couple more runs this year. Already running in the Shamrock Shuffle with Sandy at the end of March. --I find it funny that my mom and her friends watch movies at the theatres... not really understanding what's going on... but enjoys getting the "jist" of the story by watching intently :D --seriously can't wait for summer... so I can rollerblade, walk around the city in my flip flops, and enjoy the warm temps --I hope that my sick friends get better soon! Watch out for that flu bug!

| I didn't run for like a month in December, but strangely enough, my jeans were fitting more loosely than normal. I couldn't understand how I was loosing weight when I was eating so darn much! But I stopped questioning it after awhile. Effortless weight-loss is always a good thing!
So anywho... after my running/exercising hiatus, I got myself back into the groove of things. Not only should I not eliminate running from my life (for I will undoubtedly blow up)... but I need to prepare myself for the upcoming Hustle up the Hancock. I dunno if running is the best way to "train" ... but the website said that if I'm able to run 3 miles, I should be fine. "Fine." What does that mean? Will I not die at the end of the climb if I'm able to run three miles? That's reassuring. Or, will it be a breeze if I'm able to run three miles? Well, since I don't have a bally's membership and can't use their stair climber, I've been doing extra sets of walking lunges at the glen (til I literally collapse!) The first day was torture... and my legs were soooo sore the next morning. It has all become somewhat easier now, and the pain has gone away... but... my jeans are not loose anymore! I've realized that I wasn't loosing weight in December. I was just getting nice and fat and my muscles were hibernating underneath. haha...
So anywho, I'm excited for the 54 story climb. I have approximately one month to get ready. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but I honestly have never climbed that many stairs all at once before. I think it'll be extremely hard. This reminds me that I have to get a move-on with the whole fund-raising thing. It's not a requirement, but I have my own web-link to send to people so they can make donations. I have to find it in my emails again... but I'm hoping (and hinting) that people will sponsor me My coworkers and managers have already agreed to supporting me, which is very exciting! I just have to send them the link before they change their minds!
December was a fun-filled and busy month. January wasn't much different. It isn't over yet, but I'm already looking forward to February. I hope it's not gonna be filled with soooo much gluttonous eating like it was this month (although, I'll admit that it wasn't so bad )
Birthday dinner at a tapas restaurant for moi and Sandy. Thanks girls! It was fabulous!
Sandy, Karen, & Chrisy Me and Sandy with our flaun (sp?)

Dearest Grace and Janet took us out to Nick's Fish Market for our birthday. Never been there before, nor had we ever heard of it. But it is now in our top 5 fave places to eat! Everything was so tasty! (Gracie, me, Janet & Sandy)
Went to Ethiopian Diamond for the first time in the city and completely fell in love with it!! If anyone seriously wants to try it, or is planning on going anytime soon, call me! (i'm salivating just looking at the picture)
Had to eat with our hands (Sandy & Grace). Then, Sandy and I got a box of cookies for our bday treat (Esther, me, & Sandy inside the Swedish bakery)

I actually got spoiled with 3 cakes this year, but I only have pictures of 2. Both of these are from Deerfield Bakery. The first is the Queen Elizabeth and the second is a very chocolate-y cake (don't know the official name). Can you believe Sandy and I finished off both in three days after sharing a piece with the family the first night? Well, considering that Sandy can eat a whole Baker's Square pie in one sitting, I guess it's not that shocking.
Paul Mun was in town... and it was lovely seeing him! Met up at Giordano's with some Madison people and did alot of catching up. (Jensen, Paul, Andy, & Angela)
Angela, me, Becky, Nalae, Sandy & Karen Hehe... I heard a Korean joke somewhat recently. I've never heard it before and thought it was cute. Why couldn't the ice cream cone cross the street?.............................................. cha ga wuh nee gga.

| Can anyone believe it's already 8 days into the new year? I feel like it's still the beginning of 2007! My mom always used to say that time flies faster with each passing year (in Korean, of course). And I'm realizing that this is true. I remember in grade school and middle school, the days seemed soooo long... and the summers seemed to last forever! Now, with a blink of an eye, another season has come and gone... I'll be another year older... and I'm already wondering what to expect for 2009!
I've never formally made resolutions before (or, at least none that I can remember)... but I'm thinking that I'll actually make a list this year and try my best to accomplish all my goals. --A lot of my resolutions have to deal with "maintaining" things... such as maintaining my spending habits, maintaining my regular jogs, and maintaining my long distance friendships/relationships. --And then, of course, there's the resolution to stop doing things... such as stop picking at my thumbs and stop eating sooooo much sugar. --Some of the proactive "do's?" Well, I do want to go on a European trip (to London, Italy, or Paris) by the end of summer. I do want to do another "adventurous" thing ... like maybe hang gliding. (I don't know if anything will beat sky diving tho!) I do want to become a movie buff again and watch all the coming attractions every weekend. I literally used to watch 2-3 new movies every week! And I loved it! I would always have a review for my friends and co-workers... on what not to watch and which ones were "must-sees." And... I do want to become a better person all-around.
The last one is kinda general... but I don't really know how to effectively specify what I mean. I don't steal, deceive, or discourage... but I do have many areas in which I can improve. I feel that I'm a pretty patient person, but I know I can be a lot more patient (especially with my family). I see myself as an optimistic girl... but I can definitely be more hopeful and encouraging for myself and for others. I hope no one would ever describe me as a selfish person... but I'm realizing that I can try to be a lot more selfless. Whether I should offer more of my time to my community, church, or hospitals, I know that I have much to give. I want to be a strong, loving, kind, and honest person ... with integrity and confidence to spare. There are so many people in my life I look up to... and want to emulate (such as my dad, good friends, and spiritual leaders). So, I'm hoping that this "journey" to becoming a better person won't be too impossible :)
It's strange how people don't fully realize the kind of person they want to become... until after they are at the receiving end of someone's generous, loving, or supportive act. And on the flip side, people try very hard to avoid being a certain way only after they are at the receiving end of someone's dishonest, hurtful, or selfish act. For me... all I know is... I don't ever want to hurt, take advantage of, or betray the people I love and cherish. My resolution this year... is to appreciate and acknowledge those that I admire, those that I befriend, and those that I have become soo comfortable with that I almost forget how much I love them. Growing up, I got tired of hearing my dad's talks about being a "good person" and about living a fulfilling life by helping others. But I'm glad he drilled those values inside our heads... because that's the kind of person I want to become... and that's the kind of people I want to surround myself with.
Ok... well, I've totally babbled on and on ( once again! ). For those that look solely at pictures .... here's my picture update for the day:
NewYear's Eve dinner. Me and Chrisy Roy and Sandy

At hotel Monaco: Lucky Roy with two sets of twins
Chrisy and Sandy towards the end of the night
New Year's Day: dinner at my Uncle's place
Sandy and Matthew posing Caleb and gomo playing
Mike, Richard, me, Michael, Jenny and Sandy
Karaoke time!! Oh geez... I cringed everytime my dad sang. Haha
Broomball at Glenview skating rink. I hadn't played since like my youth group days. So much fun!

Me and Sarah. Waiting for a team to win, so we can play!
Sandy, Ken, Nick, and Stephanie. Wendy's tastes so good after many sweaty games of broomball!
Jae, Sandy..... and uh... me. :) They wanted me in the picture... really.
Wall climbing at Vertical Endeavors in Warrenville, IL. The girls: Gloria, Nancy, me, Sandy, Mijin and Jane
The boys: Hojung, Dave, Joe and Mike
Sandy and I with one of our instructors, Chills. (That's his name!)
The group listening intently to Chills explaining the rules of the game. Haha... look at Mike's facial expression :)

They looked pretty intrigued by the soft, rubbery "gravel." Or rather... they looked pretty entertained by it!
Now for some wall climbing action shots: Mike almost at the top!
Hojung and Nancy made it to the top! Awesome job! Dave defeated this impossible wall.

Me and Sandy... NOT looking like spidermen. Sandy and I look pretty sweaty... err.. "glowing" Dave ... looks like he's a deer caught in headlights. hehe...
That's it for now... til next time Hope everyone has a nice rest of the week!
